MOCA: “An Artist’s Life Manifesto”
VENUE: MOCA, Downtown Los Angeles
AUDIENCE: A-List Celebrities, Artists, Museum Supporters, National and International Media
• MOCA’s Annual benefit gala
• Produced by Bounce, in coordination with Marina Abramovic
After donning white lab coats and finding that the attendees, staff, production crew, and servers were all dressed the same, patrons at MOCA’s “An Artist’s Life Manifesto” event entered a room unlike any they had been in before. The tables’ centerpieces were human beings; in some cases heads protruding from the center of the table and rotating to make eye-contact with guests, and in other cases nudes, draped in skeletons, rotating on large circular tables. Guests were encouraged to admire the centerpieces and be admired back and to make eye contact and non-verbal, non-physical communication. The event, directed by Marina Abramovic, was the talk of the national arts community for months and also included a performance by Debbie Harry and cakes fashioned as life-size replicas of Harry and Abramovic.
